Use Your Breath

PAUSE PRACTICE
Before opening your screen to connect with students, schedule in 5 minutes for this pause practice. Plant your feet on the floor, take three deep cleansing breaths, and set an intention for your day. If helpful, you can use these questions to inspire you in setting your intention:

What is the greatest expression of me as a teacher today?

How would a great teacher think?

How would a great teacher feel?

How would a great teacher act?

What should I give up today?

What should I be aware of today?


HEART-FOCUSED BREATHING
Practice “Heart-Focused Breathing” as you provide online learning to your students. Remember, the more you practice, the more fluent you will become at regulating your "fight, flight, or freeze" responses!

Refresher: as you breathe, imagine your breath coming directly in and out of the area of the heart. Do this for about five cycles of breath. Repeat as many times as possible during your sessions with students. It is possible to practice this and listen to your students at the same time!
